Erik J Whitton is an Inter-disciplinary Designer. lol
I am currently a gallery technician working in exhibitions at Royal Greenwich Museums. Specialising in developing and installing interactives, no one knows how to turn something off and on again quite like me. *You can ignore this* Through underlying interests in technology and literature, I am devoted to my work having a full understanding and a depth of consideration into different topics. My design practice moves fluidly between mediums and contexts, but I always focus on my communication; being careful to consider the different ways my work applies to, and is read by, the world. One amazing thing about technology is its wide reach; communicating effectively means I need to submerge myself in the relevant knowledge and demographic. How I reach my audience can be digital, real world performances, or through print. I have experienced that without a broad skillset, design practice can develop outside of a meaningful context and encounter faults in realisation. I'm both fascinated by internet culture, and concerned by the new role of technology in our lives, how it is changing us and the way it is used to subvert. How I approach projects tends towards my want to create speculative discussion about the communicative and social aspects of technology and investigate unseen or ignored dilemmas in our emerging technological world. From this, I produce work that quantifies human experience and shapes alternate perspectives through experimental and intriguing objects.
